Frappant Open Call 2025

Der Frappant e.V. ruft Künstler*innen, Kurator*innen, Designer*innen, Architekt*innen und Aktivist*innen dazu auf, sich mit einem Ausstellungskonzept für 2025 bei der Frappant Galerie zu bewerben. Die Frappant Galerie ist ein nichtkommerzieller Ausstellungsort inmitten eines größeren, genossenschaftlich verwalteten Zentrums für alternative Kultur, Bildung, Kreativwirtschaft und Soziales in Hamburg-Altona.
Den Frappant Verein gibt es seit 2009; er ist im Netzwerk der freien Kunstorte ART OFF HAMBURG aktiv und als Kunstort in Hamburg etabliert. Das Ausstellungsprogramm des Frappant e.V. wird aus Mitteln der Behörde für Kultur-und-Medien Hamburg gefördert.
Bei den Bewerbungen bevorzugen wir:
- Konzepte für Gruppenausstellungen, in denen mindestens drei künstlerische Positionen miteinander interagieren
- Konzepte freier Kurator*innen
- genre- und raumübergreifende (analoge sowie digitale) Ansätze und Projekte
- überregionale Kollaborationen unter Beteiligung Hamburger Künstler*innen
- Austausch mit anderen freien Kunstorten und Projekträumen außerhalb Hamburgs
- Ausstellungskonzepte, die interdisziplinär zwischen bildender Kunst, darstellender Kunst, Musik, Text/Literatur, Urbanistik und Soziokultur operieren
- Projekte, die beobachten, kritisieren, hinterfragen, queeren, neugestalten, dekonstruieren; feministische Positionen beziehen und alternative Perspektiven zur westlich heteronormativen Sichtweise beinhalten
- sehr willkommen sind Begleitprogramme während der Ausstellung (Performances, Lesungen, Workshops, Screenings etc.).
Was wir bieten:
Unsere Galerie besteht aus drei etwa gleich großen Räumen mit insgesamt 140m2 Fläche und ca. 4m hohen Decken sowie einem vierten, digitalen Ausstellungsraum: Der Vierte Raum dervierteraum.org.
Dieser digitale Ausstellungsraum kann parallel zu den analogen Räumen bespielt werden. Die Galerie wird vom Ausstellungsteam sowie weiteren Aktiven des Frappant e.V. ehrenamtlich betreut. Wir kuratieren das Gesamtprogramm, beraten die ausstellenden Künstler*innen, unterstützen bei Öffentlichkeitsarbeit und Vernetzung und kümmern uns um den technischen Support. Primär bleiben jedoch die ausstellenden Künstler*innen verantwortlich (siehe Aussteller*innen-Info auf frappant.org/galerie).
Die Ausstellungsdauer bei uns kann wahlweise ein, zwei oder drei Wochenenden umfassen (die Aufsicht muss dabei von den Künstler*innen übernommen werden). Ausstellungsbeispiele findet man auf Instagram @frappantgalerie.
Wer sich bewerben kann:
In der Frappant Galerie können professionell arbeitende Künstler*innen, Kurator*innen, Designer*innen, Architekt*innen, Aktivist*innen ausstellen, die sich mit einem aussagekräftigen, schriftlichen Ausstellungskonzept beworben haben, das vom Frappant-Ausstellungsteam angenommen wurde. Die Bewerber*innen sollten eine qualifizierte künstlerische oder kuratorische Praxis vorweisen können.
Bewerbungen können bis zum 1. September 2024 unter bewerbung@frappant.org eingereicht werden.
Die Bewerbung sollte ein zusammenhängendes PDF sein. Der Name der Datei muss den Ausstellungstitel enthalten und darf die Größe von 10 MB nicht überschreiten (Video- oder Audiobeispiele bitte nicht als zusätzliche Datei, sondern per Hyperlink oder Filetransfer senden).
Die Bewerbung muss folgende Angaben enthalten:
- Ausstellungskonzept (ca. 1–2 DIN A4 Seiten), das sich auf ein zentrales Thema sowie auf die räumlichen Gegebenheiten der Frappant Galerie (analog und digital) bezieht
- Angaben zu den teilnehmenden Künstler*innen
(jeweils mit CV, max. 1 Din A4 Seite je teilnehmender Person)
- Bildergalerie mit beispielhaften Arbeiten der teilnehmenden Künstler*innen
- Terminpräferenzen und gewünschte Dauer der Ausstellung (1, 2 oder mehr Wochenenden).
Bewerbungen, die diese Anforderungen nicht erfüllen oder verspätet eingegangen sind, können nicht berücksichtigt werden.
Über die Aufnahme der Bewerbung ins Ausstellungsprogramm entscheidet das Frappant-Ausstellungsteam Anfang Oktober 2024. Eine verbindliche Zusage kann aber erst erfolgen, wenn der Frappant e.V. eine Förderzusage für 2025 durch die Behörde für Kultur-und-Medien Hamburg erhalten hat (voraussichtlich Dezember 2024).
Wir werden alle Bewerber*innen per E-Mail unterrichten und bitten um Verständnis, wenn dieses erst im Dezember 2024 geschehen kann.

Frappant Open Call 2025
The Frappant e. V. calls artists, curators, designers, architects and activists to apply with their exhibition concepts to have a show at the Frappant Galerie in 2025. The Frappant Galerie is a non commercial exhibiton space amidst a larger, cooperatively managed center for alternative culture, education, creative industry and social issues in Hamburg-Altona.
The Frappant e. V. was founded in 2009; it is an active member of ART OFF HAM- BURG, a network of independant artspaces and it is well established in the art scene of Hamburg. The exhibition programme of Frappant e.V. is funded by the Behörde für Kultur-und-Medien Hamburg.
We especially welcome applications:
- with concepts intending the interaction of at least three artistic positions
- put forward by freelance curators
- with approaches and projects, that transcend genres or are spatially encompassing (analogue and digital)
- by transregional collaborations, involving artists from Hamburg
- that facilitate exchange with other independent art and project spaces outside of Hamburg
- with exhibition concepts, that operate interdisciplinary between fine arts, performing arts, music, text/literature, urbanism and social culture
- of projects that observe, critique, question, queer, redesign, deconstruct, assume feminist positions and contain perspectives alternative to the western-heteronormative viewpoint
- planning for accompanying program during the exhibtion (performances, lectures, workshops, screenings etc.)
What we offer:
Our gallery stretches over three rooms of approximately the same size, totaling 140m2, with a room height of ca. 4m. Additionally there is a fourth, virtual room: A digital exhibition space called Der Vierte Raum dervierteraum.org.
This digital exhibition space can be activated parallel to the analogue ones.
The Gallery is tended to by the exhibition team and other active members of Frappant e.V. through voluntary work. We curate the overall program, advise the exhibiting artists and offer technical support. Primarily, the artists themselves are responsible for the exhibition (see our Exhibitors-Info on frappant.org/galerie).
The duration of the exhibtion can be one, two or three weekends (the artists themsel- ves take care of the supervision of the space). Examples of exhibitons previously held in Frappant Galerie can be found on Instagram @frappantgalerie.
Who can apply:
Professionally working artists, curators, designers, architects, activists can exhibtit in Frappant Galerie, after having submitted a conclusive, written exhibition concept that has been accepted by the Frappant exhibtion team. The applicants should be able to show a qualified artistic or curatorial practice.
Applications can be handed in until September 1, 2024 at bewerbung@frappant.org.
The application should be submitted as a single PDF file. The name of the file has to contain the title of the exhibition and can not exceed the file size of 10MB (please attach examples of video and audio work via hyperlink or file transfer, not as an addi- tional file).
The application has to contain the following:
- exhibition concept (ca. 1-2 DIN A4 pages), that refers to a central topic as well as the spatial conditions of the Frappant Galerie (analogue and digital)
- details of the participating artists (each with a CV, max. 1 DIN A4 page per participant)
- photo gallery of exemplary works by each participant
- preferred dates and duration of the exhibition (1, 2 or more weekends).
Applications that do not follow these guidelines or that are submitted after the deadline can not be considered.
The Frappant exhibition group decides about the inclusion into the exhibition pro gram at the beginning of October 2024. A binding confirmation can only be given after the Frappant e.V. receives a funding approval for 2025 by the Behörde für Kultur-und-Medien (presumably in December 2024).
