With Art off, GOSS ON, the participating artists invite the audience to immerse in their very personal negotiations with the concept of gossip.
The term gossip traces it’s etymological roots to the Old English god and sibb [good kin] to originally identify those female read persons close to each other and conducting their daily work together. Today, gossip is used almost exclusively discreditingly; as a condescending term for spiteful ranting. In Art off, GOSS ON, the contributors approach Silvia Federici's historical-materialist research, which provided the conceptual starting point for their coming together. In the courtyard their dialogical explorations of the role of professional and personal communities of practice, their quasi-ancestral discrediting, and approaches to proactively overwrite can be followed upon. With What goss around, goss around, the successfully
long-running format the speakers, Art Goss and Alina Lupu, engage in a conversation about strategies and approaches with actors from different spheres of political engagement. For a round table discussion the platform for high effort art gossip. Born out of the recent crisis at The Royal Academy of Art The Hague (KABK), Art Goss are significantly involved in changing its status quo and built a platform that acts as a public corrective – as well as asks more generally: How can gossip be a godparent to the art world? During the exchange, ideas and questions will be discussed concerning diversity, organisation, labour and mobilisation within – as well as governance of (art educational) institutions and the (political) role that gossip can play within it.
